Evans Lake: Fire Recovery Efforts Underway

Squamish, BC — April 20, 2026

Evans Lake Fire Update #2

On March 28, 2026, a fire broke out at Evans Lake Forest Education Centre while no groups were on site. The fire began in Cabin 3/4 and spread to Cabin 5/6 before being discovered by staff.

While the loss is significant, we are grateful that no one was injured.

Four of our ten cabins (46 beds) were lost in the fire. All other core facilities—including the Dining Hall, Rec Hall, and activity spaces—remain fully intact. Camp operations continue, and we are moving forward with plans to run programs as scheduled. This includes sourcing and installing temporary accommodation structures to ensure we can welcome all campers and groups.

We are currently working with our insurance provider to assess damage and move toward rebuilding. Our priority is to ensure all groups and campers can attend this spring, summer, and beyond. Registered groups will continue to receive updates as plans progress.

Safety remains our top priority. We are conducting a full review of our safety plans and procedures, and a comprehensive electrical inspection of all accommodations has been completed, with no hazards identified.

Insurance will not cover the full cost of recovery. We have launched a $50,000 fundraising campaign to help bridge the gap—supporting immediate needs, replacement costs, and unexpected expenses. Funds raised will go directly toward fire recovery, rebuilding, and operational impacts, with any additional funds supporting future capital improvements. Donations are eligible for a tax receipt and can be made at:
evanslakefirefund.campbraingiving.com or through GoFundMe.

Updates will be shared regularly through our website, social media, and e-newsletters. We encourage our community to refer to these channels for the latest information.

We are grateful for the continued support of our community as we move forward.
