Evans Lake is thrilled to announce that we were one of the nine recipients of a Conservation and Community Partnership Grant through the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). With this funding, Evans Lake will be hosting a Forest Education Symposium for Teachers on the October 21st Provincial Pro-D Day.
The Forest Education Symposium for Teachers (FEST) will help teachers and administrators create or enrich forest education programs at their schools. They will receive a program package of up-to-date educational resources, including suggested activities and locations, a chart linking activities to Prescribed Learning Outcomes, and additional related resources. The one-day symposium will include a workshop, demonstration of activities from the program package, a roundtable to answer questions about forest management, and an introduction to SFI certification hosted by the Western Canada SFI Implementation Committee. While the primary aim is on grade 6-8 classes, the activities are easily modified to suit other age and ability levels.
If you’re you’re a teacher and interested in learning more about the FEST, or you’d like to recommend a teacher who think would be interested, please let us know!
