Evans Lake is excited to present Edible Wild Mushrooms of B.C., a weekend course October 17-18th at the Evans Lake Forest Education Centre near Squamish, B.C.
This course is for eager beginners looking to gain the confidence and skills needed to safely identify, harvest, and prepare edible wild mushrooms in BC.

Saturday, October 17th, 2015
Morning
Introduction to the diverse and delightful world of fungi
Presentation: Major groups of fungi and edible mushrooms
Afternoon
Exploration of the Evans Lake old growth forest: field specimen collections
Identification of fungi collections
Evening
“Know Your Mushrooms”: Mushroom film screening
Sunday, October 18th
Morning
Presentation: cleaning, storage, and recipes for edible mushrooms
Edible mushroom foray: collecting for the dinner table
Lunch and course wrap-up
Course registration includes four meals (Saturday lunch to Sunday lunch), one night of on-site accommodation, and lots of take-home mushrooms!
Registration is $110 (shared accommodation) or $130 (semi-private accommodation). Register on or before September 25, 2015 to be eligible for a $25 early-bird discount!

Course Instructor Frances Ankenman is the Program Manager at Evans Lake Forest Education Society with five years of experience in public ecological education. Her interests include ecology of fungi/lichens, ecological restoration and natural resource management.
