One of our core goals of our society is to 'To cultivate knowledge, experience, overcome challenges and build positive relationships that foster confidence and life skills development'.
What does this really mean though? Lifelong friendships start at camp. Connections that are made at camp are hard to break and often continue when returning home. 10 campers share a cabin for the duration of the week and develop a tight bond with one another and their counselor. As a group, you can compete against other cabins for points, think creatively to develop the best outfits for theme lunches, and write the best songs for slug races.
Outside of the cabins, campers have the opportunity to meet friends in the dining hall, during free time, on the overnight hikes, or in the daily educational courses.
One alumni writes: "My closest friends today were the ones that I met in camp many years ago. You get to know people in a way that high school doesn't allow. In addition, when I brought friends from highschool to attend with me, our relationship grew as we both experienced new and exciting challenges and opportunities."
